Stocks Moving in Premarket Today, May 16, 2023

U.S. stock futures were mixed in early trading on Tuesday, May 16, 2023, as investors digested a mixed bag of corporate earnings reports and awaited the release of key economic data later in the week.

Here are some of the stocks that are moving in premarket trading:

  • Tesla (TSLA) is up 2.5% after the electric car maker reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the first quarter of 2023.

  • Amazon (AMZN) is down 1.5% after the e-commerce giant reported weaker-than-expected earnings and revenue for the first quarter of 2023.

  • Apple (AAPL) is up 0.5% after the iPhone maker reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the first quarter of 2023.

  • Microsoft (MSFT) is up 1% after the software giant reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the first quarter of 2023.

  • Alphabet (GOOGL) is up 1.5% after the search engine giant reported better-than-expected earnings and revenue for the first quarter of 2023.

Investors will be closely watching the release of the Federal Reserve's Beige Book later in the week for clues about the state of the U.S. economy. The Beige Book is a collection of anecdotal reports from the Federal Reserve's district banks on economic activity.

The release of the Beige Book comes ahead of the Federal Reserve's next interest rate decision on June 15. The Fed is widely expected to raise interest rates by 50 basis points at that meeting.

Investors will also be watching the release of the U.S. jobs report for May on Friday. The jobs report is expected to show that the U.S. economy added 325,000 jobs in May.

The mixed performance of stocks in premarket trading comes after the S&P 500 closed lower for a second straight day on Monday. The S&P 500 is now down more than 10% from its all-time high.
